Sustaining the Academic Pipeline: A Professional Development Workshop Series for Academics of Color

Land-grant institutions were designed to improve the lives of individuals and communities by removing barriers education. However, despite years effort address lack scholars color at these institutions, disparities have persisted. Many graduate students faculty reported that workshops meant diversify academia their did not speak unique experiences or challenges. Ultimately, this contributed decision be less engaged in leave academia. Using components Kirkpatrick model evaluation (Kirkpatrick, 2007), authors evaluate a professional development workshop series created an interdisciplinary team Black women staff historically white, land-grant, research 1 (R1) university Midwest. This was color. Six two members evaluated through semi-structured qualitative interviews. Participants describe decision-making processes come white institution, mentoring experiences, impact diverse peers feelings isolation. Implications for practice are discussed.
